How to Choose the Most Durable Fabric for Woven Fabric Dining Chair

Assess Your Needs
First things first, take a moment to consider how your Woven Fabric Dining Chair will be used. Do you have young children who might spill food or pets that might climb onto the chairs? Will the chairs be used daily for family meals, or are they more for occasional use in a formal dining room?

Understand Fabric Durability Ratings
When shopping for fabric, you'll come across terms like double rubs and Wyzenbeek ratings. These ratings indicate the fabric's durability. Double rubs measure how abrasion-resistant a fabric is, while Wyzenbeek ratings determine how many cycles of abrasion (back and forth motion) a fabric can withstand before showing signs of wear.

Choose the Right Fabric Material
Different fabric materials offer varying levels of durability and maintenance requirements:
Polyester: Durable and resistant to wrinkling and fading, making it ideal for busy households.
Microfiber: Soft, easy to clean, and resistant to stains, though it can attract pet hair.
Leather: Extremely durable and ages beautifully, but requires regular maintenance to prevent drying out.

Consider Fabric Weave and Texture
The weave and texture of the fabric also play a significant role in durability. Fabrics with tight weaves, such as twill or canvas, tend to be more durable than loosely woven fabrics. Additionally, textures like velvet or chenille, while luxurious, may show wear more quickly than smoother fabrics.

Check Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements
Finally, consider the fabric's cleaning and maintenance needs. Choose fabrics that are easy to clean, especially if you anticipate frequent spills or stains. Some fabrics may require professional cleaning, while others can be spot-cleaned at home with mild detergents.

How To Clean Woven Fabric Dining Chair

Fabric upholstered dining chairs, more often than not, form feature pieces in the dining room. Maintaining their appearance is an essential part of keeping your home looking good. As with any high quality item of furniture, a certain amount of care and preservation is needed in order to conserve your Woven Fabric Dining Chair in optimum condition.

Regular Vacuuming
Dirt and dust cause fabrics to wear more quickly. Thoroughly vacuuming the upholstery on your dining chairs at least once a week will help keep them cleaner and brighter by preventing any dust or crumbs from penetrating the fabric and body of the furniture. These days, the majority of vacuum cleaners come with upholstery attachments ideally suited for furniture cleaning. Vacuuming also helps stop common allergens such as household dust mites from spreading.

Avoid Direct Sunlight
As with any fabric, exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time will eventually fade bright colours. Where exposure to strong sunlight is probable, such as in conservatory dining areas, it is advisable to keep blinds or curtains drawn when the room is not in use.

Professional Cleaning
High quality furniture is an investment – in order to prolong the life of your upholstered dining room chairs as much as possible, it is advisable to have the fabric professionally cleaned at least twice a year. Professional cleaning methods may vary and will very much depend on the type of fabric the chairs are made from. There are numerous professional cleaners on the market, so be sure to choose a reputable company – a spot test on an inconspicuous area of the fabric is a good way to ensure the cleaning products are not too harsh and won't damage the fabric.

Spills and Spot Cleaning
Accidents can and do happen – the key factor in stain removal is timing. Any spills should be treated immediately, the longer the stain remains on the fabric – the harder it becomes to remove. Before using any type of cleaning product on your fabric upholstery chairs, it is important to check the manufacturer's cleaning codes.

Spot Cleaning
Liquid spills should be mopped up immediately using a clean towel – the stain should be blotted gently to remove excess liquid without pressing too firmly, working inwardly in order to prevent the stain spreading further. Your fabric upholstery cleaning guidelines may have approved spot cleaning products listed.

How to Paint a Woven Fabric Dining Chair

1. Prepare Your Workspace

Start by laying down newspaper to protect your work surface from any paint spills or splatters. Make sure you have all your materials within reach for easy access during the painting process.

2. Clean Your Chair

Before painting, it's essential to clean the Woven Fabric Dining Chair thoroughly to remove any dust, dirt, or debris that could affect the fabric paint application. Be sure to hoover any loose particles, followed by a damp cloth or sponge to wipe down the surface. Allow the chair to dry completely before proceeding.

3. Choose Your Colour

Decide on the colour you want to use. If you're changing the colour of your fabric, the original fabric must be a lighter colour than the paint you decide to use.

4. Spray with Water

Always test your fabric for water absorbency first. If it absorbs water, Fabricoat will work. Now dampen the chair fabric with water to help the painting process.

5. Start Painting

Now it's time to unleash your creativity. Shake the bottle well and pour into a bowl. We do suggest you test in an unseen area first to check the fabric is fully absorbent.
Dip your paintbrush into the fabric paint and start applying it to the chair, working in small sections to ensure even coverage. Take your time and work carefully to avoid smudges or mistakes.

6. Let it Dry

To ensure even coverage, brush with a soft bristled brush in all directions while the paint is drying. Allow the paint to dry completely between coats and after you've finished painting.
Your chair will be touch dry within 24 hours; depending on the type of fabric paint and the thickness of your coats we do suggest a full seven days to fully cure. Be patient, as rushing this step could result in smudges or uneven coverage. To keep the fabric soft, brush again once completely dry.
